A new orchestra rooted in openhearted collaboration where individuals share their own unique story and rich global musical heritage.
There are amazing sounds as Syrian oud meets funky bass, soaring Chinese erhu is surrounded by cascading harp, violins melt into muted trumpet, then gritty jazz piano, all led by the soulful and enchanting voices of Alice Zawadzki and Rouhangeze.
All rising into one in a thrilling orchestral sound as these extraordinary colours come together.
Standing ovations greeted the orchestra at their debut concerts at the Barbican Centre in 2019. Under the direction of Peter Wiegold (Club Inégales), they are a vibrant and ground-breaking orchestra for our times, we are delighted that they will perform their show The Space Between at Grand Junction.
A real united-nations, and a new approach to music. I just love the way that there's so many people who all find their place with so much freedom to play
Benjamin Zephaniah
Fabulous gig, a gorgeous sound, amazing players’
Judith Webster of Music for Youth
I loved it was an of-the-moment thing. But there were so many beautiful, funky, extraordinary moments, I want to enjoy them all again
Tom Guthrie, Opera director

The Third Orchestra was created by Peter and the late John Cumming, director of Serious and the EFG London Jazz Festival. Respecting the great orchestral traditions of the past, they wanted to create a new orchestra, based in multi-cultural London, reaching out to the world, an orchestra without boundaries. Musicians from North, South, East and West are welcome and it is inclusive, with a gender balance, and is 50% Black, Asian and ethnically diverse, with members aged 20-70.
