The “seriously impressive” (Telegraph) folk legend, revered for her mesmerising live performances, rich and powerful vocal set and fiercely beautiful fiddle-playing, graces the Grand Junction stage.
Describing herself simply as a “modern English musician”, Eliza Carthy herself is one of the most recognisable faces of the English folk revival. The daughter of a folk dynasty (her father is Martin Carthy and her mother Norma Waterson), twice nominated for the Mercury Prize, winner of number BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and with an MBE for services to folk, Eliza has performed with artists including, Paul Weller and Rufus Wainwright.
For this concert, Eliza will be joined by Saul Rose, founder member of Eliza Carthy and The Wayward Band, and musician and composer David Delarre to perform a selection of traditional songs from Conversations we’ve had before – the first album that they have recorded as a trio, which was released in summer 2020.
The lady who kick-started the still remarkably healthy contemporary British folk scene is celebrating in style.
The Guardian (on Eliza Carthy)
Compelling. One of the figureheads of the English folk revival.
Evening Standard (on Eliza Carthy)
Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all.
